Marécottite from Jáchymov
Sulphates of uranium of the zippeite group occures relatively often in Jáchymov. Magnesiozippeite - or zippeite containing Magnesium was described in year 1976 from Utah, USA and later also locally from the material caming out from the Jáchymov mines too. In year 2001 was described another mineral structurally similar to zippeite group containing Magnesium from the Switzerland - Marécottite.
It was found later, that Marécottite occures except for its typical powder form, like minerals of the zippeite group, rarely in form of good crystals too. The place from which came the specimen pictured below, provided another interesting minerals containing uranium too. Marécottite formed here locally common powder aggregates, rarely were found also such a good specimens with this groups of fine development crystals. This mineral belongs among minerals originated subrecently, joined with recently alteration of primary mineralisation (mainly uraninite) in environment of dump material and old uranium shafts.
